INFORMATION FOR COACHES
Welcome to the 2008 Arizona Thunder Senior Division Tip Off Tourney. New format four game guarantee
We have not scheduled a coaches’ meeting, so please read the following information very carefully. If you have questions regarding rules, directions, brackets or anything else, give me a call at work at 602-274-1100, at home at 602-863-4468, or on my cell at 602-910-8468. Please note the following:
1. We have a record number of teams this year. But we have MANY games to get played, which means A LOT of basketball between Friday afternoon and Sunday afternoon. Because of the limited court time, we were not able to completely avoid some late evening/early morning game possibilities. We had numerous special scheduling requests, and we were able to accommodate almost all of them. We’re sorry if your request was not honored. Believe me, we tried.
2. ALL PLAYERS AND COACHES MUST HAVE CURRENT AAU MEMBERSHIPS!! If you emailed your roster with membership numbers for coaches and players, we certified your team in advance. If a player, coach or team was not pre-certified, we’ll need to see proof of membership before the first game. Also, players must be prepared to show a birth certificate before each game. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THE AAU MEMBERSHIP RULE!! Every person on the bench players, coaches, managers etc. must have an AAU membership. In addition there can only be one of those standing during the game. PLAYERS WILL ONLY PLAY ON ONE TEAM PER TOURNAMENT. This means you cannot play in two different divisions or on two different teams within the same club.
3. The Thunderbird gyms are located at 1750 W. Thunderbird Rd, Phx. 85023. Parking lots are located off W. Thunderbird Road, and off 19th Avenue, 1/4 mile north of Thunderbird Road. Barry Goldwater is located at 2820 W. Rose Garden Lane, Phx. 85027. Parking is on the north side of the school off of 27th ave. North High School is located at 1101 E. Thomas Road, Phx. 85014
4. Admission fees are $5 per day for adults (age 13 and older), and $3 per day for children ages 6-12. Players and coaches are free, and trusting souls that we are, we will not issue player passes.
5. Teams are responsible for their own trainers. THE THUNDER DOES NOT PROVIDE TOURNAMENT TRAINERS.
6. The team listed on top of the bracket is the home team, and will wear the lighter uniforms. The home team sits on the left of the scorer’s table facing the court.
7. We will play AIA rules on free throws.
8. All teams will play a 20 minute half, running clock. The clock will stop the last two minutes of the first half and the last two minutes of the second half, unless one team is 20 points ahead.
9. Each team will have two full time outs and two 30-second time outs per game. (Time outs will carry over.) Half time will be four minutes in length, and teams will receive a minimum six-minute warm-up. The first overtime will be three minutes in length, and subsequent overtimes will be two minutes in length.
10. Warm-up balls will not be supplied. The Thunder will provide game balls. There will be no shooting during time outs and no one other than the opposing teams of that game shooting at halftime and warm ups! Please control your children at the tournament.
11. Game time will be forfeit time, but I’ve alerted the referees to be lenient with teams on the early Friday games. If any problems arise during the tournament, immediately call Gary Nolte (602-647-0312), Sam Carlise (623-764-4654) or me on my cell phone.
12. Please enlist the cooperation of your parents, fans, and players in keeping the gym clean, and in promptly cleaning up your team’s area after each of your games. Also, please remind everyone about the importance of good sportsmanship. Our tournaments have been relatively free of incidents the past several years, and I attribute that to many quality coaches and club directors.
13. Any Coach, Player or Parent ejected from a game or confronting an official after a game will not be allowed in to their team's next game.
Good luck this weekend!
